Mexico
Estados Unidos Mexicanos is located on the North American continent bordering California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas in the north and Belize and Guatemala in the south. Mexico has over 2,000 miles of coastline on the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of California, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Mexico has deserts, mountains, forests, and beaches. Mexico is composed of 31 states and the Distrito Federal, which contains most of the capital city, Mexico City. The states are Aguascalientas, Baja California, Baja California Sur (south), Campeche, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Colima, Durango, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Mexico, Michoacan, Morelos, Nayarit, Nuevo Leon, Oaxaca, Puebla, Queretaro de Arteaga, Quintana Roo, San Luis Potosi, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tabasco, Tamaulipas, Tlaxcala, Veracruz, Yucatan and Zacatecas.
Mexico has a rich history. Indigenous cultures included the Olmec, Mayan, Toltec and Aztec. The last of these, the Aztec came to an end in 1519 with the taking of the Aztec capital city, Tenochtitlan, and the capture of Moctezuma by the troops of Hernan Cortez. Spain ruled Mexico (New Spain) from 1535 to 1821, when Mexican independence was accepted by Spain.
